Live Online Workshops
Workshops are conducted using Zoom. They are all generative and interactive. Each workshop includes timed writing portions along with the opportunity to share what you’ve written. Feel free to write in any form, style or genre using whatever means works best for you. Prompts are a suggestion, not an assignment, I encourage you to go wherever your creativity takes you. You do not need to stick with the workshop theme or topic The goal is simply for writing to happen.
Workshops may include time dedicated to the discussion of suggested texts read together or outside of the workshop meetings. This can include creative work (poetry, fiction, etc.) and nonfiction articles, books, or videos related to writing and/or the creative process.
Each and every workshop provides tools, accountability and support for writers, artists, or anyone with a creative streak. They are a space to experiment with your creativity and hone your craft skills. Small groups, between 4-6 participants, ensure a sense of camaraderie and safety. We are a community focused on encouraging each other to stretch and grow.

Workshops follow the AWA method which includes the following guidelines:
- All workshops are a confidential space.
- Everybody’s writing is treated with equal respect, including the facilitator’s, who will write and share alongside participants.
- We treat all writing as fiction/story/narrative. When responding to writing we reference characters, narrators, or speakers.
- Writing prompts are a suggestion to be interpreted, modified or ignored if needed; and you can pass on sharing work at any time.
- When offering feedback, we focus on what is strong and successful in the piece of writing, noting words, phrases, lines, etc. that made it successful. We do not offer critiques to newly written work.
- We leave behind our own experiences and expectations; and listen without preconceived ideas about what the writing should be about, how the piece should sound, or what we might do differently.
All participants agree to adhere to workshop guidelines. To learn more about Amherst Writers and Artists, visit amherstwriters.org.

Praise From Past Participants
Although the number of class members was small, the casual and supportive atmosphere will work well in larger classes, too. The given writing prompts provoked a deeper level of writing, and the sharing and feedback was respectful and useful. I look forward to taking more of Alexis’ classes.

Experimenting with Voice
Really well organized and open at the same time – a rare mix I appreciate. I felt like I was in workshop with a supportive peer-mentor. Thank you!

Tarot Tuesday Workshop
Alexis always gives enough structure to inspire and enough space to create. I appreciate that the prompts can be stretched to generate both new work and support ongoing projects
